A Kenya Safari Holiday In Aberdare National Park

January 21st, 2010

A Kenya Safari vacation must include a trip to the Aberdare state Park, not only because a trip to Treetops possiblt the most renowned safari lodge is Kenya is here, but also due to the amazing scenery, and the variety of wildlife that may be found.

Aberdare countrywide Park is a great Kenya Safari destination for both these reasons.

The Park varies from around 7000 feet to 14000 feet so there’s everything from moorland to rainforests, bamboo forests to mountain peaks, all split up by deep river valleys with streams brooks and pretty waterfalls.

This in turn means a big range of wildlife to view on your safari vacation and Aberdare countrywide Park of course has te famous safari lodge in the world which is Treetops.  At Treetops and the Ark, each of which are treehouse hotels, where the walkways and rooms are up in the sky in the forest canopy.  They are marvellously situated beside waterholes and natural salt licks, there is all day and all night game viewing without leaving the hotel, thanks to the floodlighting.  There is even a bell system in the room to waken guests if a good sighting arrives in the hours of darkness!!  There is even an underground viewing hide so close to the waterhole, that you might almost reach out and touch.

The great spread of height in the Park means different species in different environments, and up high the moorland is really reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands, butat 10,000 feet the bamboo thickets hide the bongo a rare and evasive forest antelope.

If you have come to see the massive five, then elephants reign over the waterholes, and lions hve to give way.  Leopards can be sighted there but often a night.

The Park also contains giant numbers of black rhino.

Aberdare national Park is not a malaria area because of the height, butrecautions must continue to be taken, because you will be coming from or going to spots where Malaria is a real danger.

In summary no Kenya Safari vacation would be complete without visiting Aberdare.

visit the Tembo House

Before booking a Kenya Safari holiday, maybe even a honeymoon in Kenya, you must do your homework.

It is possible you might never have heard of Campi Ya Kanzi which is in the Chyulu Hills national Park, but this would be the ideal place for a luxury African safari.

Campi Ya Kanzi means ‘Camp of The hidden Treasure’, but effectively for you the concealed treasure is the sheer quality of this luxurious tented safari camp in Southern Kenya, which is nearly in the shadow of Mt.  Kilimanjaro which is only 35 miles away, and it lies inside a 400 square mile non-public ranch.

There are superb features concerning Campi Ya Kanzi making it an excellent base for a luxury African safari and many of them are as follows.

The maximum number of guests is limited to 14 in 6 thatched roof tented cottages, and the 2 apartments called Hemingway and Simba.  Each tented cottage is formed of stones fabric and wood.

The tented cottages all have different perspectives and are extremely private, only 1 reason that Campi Ya Kanzi is an absolute must visit on a honeymoon in Kenya.

The suites all feature a king size bed, a dressing room, and the bogs have double wash hand basins.

The cottages have either twin or king size beds, and have like the apartments a full size bath, shower, bidet, flush toilet and cold and hot running water.  Electricity is supplied by a solar system to every cottage.

Elegance is added to by the fact that the plumbing fixtures are brass, and fresh flowers are replaced each day.

Each cottage as Camp Ya Kanzi has a wide porch with wonderful views of Mt.  Kilimanjaro and the Tsavo Hills.

Each guesthouse has a chosen Maasai attendant, and at night the camp is patrolled by guards so you can feel safe and totally secure at Campi Ya Kanzi.

The meals are all served at Tembo House which is the clubhouse at the epicentre of the camp.  Like the cottages it is formed of local materials and thatch.  It is open to the outside and the perspectives of Kilimanjaro from the terrace are to put it softly impressive.  It also has a large lounge for relaxing reading and having a quiet drink.

Tembo House is more like being a guest in a friend’s’s home than an hotel.  Even dining is at a big wooden family dining table, set with quality china, silverware and crystal to further this impression, and food that has an Italian theme, and is of course home cooked by specifically trained cooks is fantastic, but stands alongside local and international dishes, and veg from the plant garden, local fresh milk and eggs from the chickens.

Campi Ya Kanzi has two goals, the first of which is to help the Maasai preserve their wildlife heritage.  The second is to offer you the most memorable vacation of your life.

Your safari day will begin with coffee or tea brought to your cottage by your Maasai attendant, and then after enjoying the view from the verandah you will have a morning game drive, or if you would prefer a walk.  Breakfast follows with fresh local fruit, then possibly an escorted safari on foot.  Campi Ya Kanzi is famous and properly so for its foot safaris.  The Maasai game trackers will go out first, then you may follow in your own car, getting close enough to whatever game you have indicated you want to see.  It is then on foot, with your armed professional guide and the trackers.  In this way you will get close and private, whilst remaining safe at all times.

All of this is as far as you can get from the mass vehicle pursuit of animals in the Masai Mara, and indeed you may never want it another way in the future.

all of the activity in the bush is what you need and not part of a firm program.  You will almost certainly see all the big 5, but on foot, and what may be more exciting than that.

if you’d like to take a luxury African safari, or have your honeymoon in Kenya, then Campi Ya Kanzi might be the only answer plus the fact each dollar you spend helps the Maasai preserve their wildlife heritage.

Living in some luxury at Borana

January 21st, 2010

A Kenya Safari holiday, part of which is spent at a personal Game Lodge called Borana diagonally opposite to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy may not initially appear to be what you’re looking for, because Borana is probably a name you are unfamiliar with.

you are going to spend a lot of cash taking any African safari Trip, especially one at the luxury end of the scale, so it is very well worthwhile doing a large amount of research before committing your hard earned cash to a safari picked as you liked a picture in a brochure.  The best personal Game Lodges are quite often not in the popular holiday brochures

selecting a Kenya Safari as a part of your holiday in Kenya can be tricky, and then on top of that there can be a confusing choice of accommodation from Camps to Lodges.  More frequently than not you’ll take a package and these decisions will be taken out of your hands, and this is often a great pity.

There are Game Lodges, and personal Game Lodges, safari camps and luxury camps, and there are very popular and sometimes jam-packed game parks, and on the other hand places that are less well-known, that will have all of the game you could wish to view with no other automobiles in sight at this time.

There are game lodges where you may pile into a mini bus for a game drive, and others where you have your own 4×4 with your own informed guide who’s going to go where you want to go.

With this in mind, study Borana Lodge at the foot of Mount Kenya roughly 6500 feet above sea level, and only sixteen miles from the equator.

Your temporary Kenya Safari holiday Home at Borana private Game Lodge has 6 cottages, so it is small, a good thing as far as it meaning personal attention.  There are 2 cottages with large double beds, and four with Queen sized beds.  They are all situated well for privacy, and perspectives from their verandahs, and each has an open hearth, and ensuite bathrooms.

At Borana there’s a choice of available activities which includes Game drives accompanied by rangers and trackers who know all there is to know and more about everything that moves and even stuff that stands still, like trees, flowers, and bushes.

You can take game walks with a professional guide.

there will be night Game Drives and you’ll be staggered at the actions of those nocturnal creatures you bump into.

You can explore the 35000 acre ranch on horseback.

Eat farm fresh cooked bush meals wherever and whenever your fancy takes you.

On returning to Borana Lodge you can relax and unwind in the pool which has lovely views over the valley below.

additionally you can select visits to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in particular to see the black and white rhino who are defended here.

You can take professionally steered walking safaris.

above all else remember that whilst you are on a Kenya Safari vacation, living in some luxury at Borana private game lodge, that Borana isn’t just a game sanctuary it is also a working ranch, so make the effort to be shown round and try to comprehend the challenges facing those who live and work in what are pretty hostile conditions, where deadly game such as lions and elephants cause damage and death on a common-or-garden basis.

Borana non-public Game Lodge is a completely different way to spend part of your Kenya Safari vacation, but its situation next to the Lewa Conservancy gives you the opportunity of a lifetime to do and see things out of the ordinary.
