Discovering Great Vacation Destinations For Your Family

February 28th, 2010

I love winter time especially when everything is covered in snow. I live in the South so I don’t get to see much snow. We decided to go on vacation we don’t even care where it is as long as it has lots of snow and great hot tubs. I started doing research online to find a place we would all enjoy and I ran across Gatlinburg, Tennessee. So last year was our first vacation there and it was gorgeous. Everyone had an amazing time.

I recommend looking on the internet to find a great place to vacation. You may be surprised when you see how many deals you can find for vacations. There are a lot of different vacation packages that you can usually find that will cover food, travel, and accommodations. You will want to know what type of accommodations you want before you start booking. Different places have different things to choose from like condos, cabins, hotels, chalets. It will depend on where you are vacationing as to which types they have.

We rented a cabin while in Tennessee and we all loved it. We were able to put on our sleepwear and gather around the fireplace to talk and tell stories. It was one of the highlights of the trip when we were just spending family time together. Of course if you go some where warm you will not need the fire place but it definitely makes for a cozy family moment.

After a while the children started to fall asleep by the fire and we covered them with a blanket and climbed on the couch together so we could read our suspense books. Personally I like to read action suspense type books but my wife always reads the romantic suspense type. This vacation brought my family together again even if it was just for a few days.

When you have teenagers and grown kids, they start to do there own thing so often that you barely see them anymore. A vacation like this is just what all families need to bring there family back together even if it is for a short time. Any time with your family is good time.

After finally deciding on a destination and booking the accommodations it is time to research. You will want to look for activities that the whole family can enjoy. My whole family wanted to learn how to ski so I found an instructor on a website and he gave us a few lessons while we vacationed. It was so much fun we all just can’t wait to get back.

If you don’t have your own ski equipment there are shops that you can rent them from. We bought each person in the family a ski helmet so they would be able to take it home as a souvenir but we rented the rest. It does not matter where you go or what you do as long as it is with the whole family. Family is what is important.

Happy Memories That Tell A Story

February 8th, 2010

That time of the year has arrived and with spring just around the corner that can only mean one thing – it’s tidy up time.

A few days ago the sun was shining and lovely as it was, unfortunately this made our house show up all the layers of dust that had accumulated over the winter months. Therefore I made the decision that spring had arrived early in our home and it was time to start the annual clean.

The day began with me full of plans to give the house a good old clean from top to bottom. Our kitchen was first on the hit list and because that took longer than I thought, I was already starting to feel weary.   However I persevered and next on the list was clearing out the Utility room.   In our house this is one of those rooms where everything gets dumped and the door gets shut.   I hadn’t been working long when I stumbled across a load of cheap books that my mum had given to me. This set me off on a lovely trip down memory lane and that was the end of my cleaning for the day.

My mum was what you would call a book addict and was always at her best when she was reading.   She didn’t really mind what she read it could be anything ranging from fiction books, romance books and she even owned a few cook books.   I’m not sure why she had the cook books, because she never really seemed to be adventurous with her cooking. Perhaps she just liked looking at all the lovely colourful pictures!

Suddenly I was back 5 years ago when we had all gone on holiday together to the Canary Islands. In my cases I had packed all the usual holiday necessities, sun tan lotion, swimming costumes and beach towels.   When mum unpacked her case it was absolutely full of books. Without a lie I think she had about 10 with her. I thought this was really funny as we were only staying at the villa for 2 weeks.   Mind you she had the last laugh as she enjoyed sunbathing around the pool reading her books and she got a fantastic suntan.

The spring cleaning didn’t really go the way I had planned, but then you know what it can be like sometimes when you get distracted and when cleaning is involved, I can’t say that I really mind.

Strange Places To Stay In

February 8th, 2010

If you are thinking of going to stay in the normal kind of Sussex cottages where the smell of bark mulch fills your nose more than anything else why don’t you look at somewhere a bit more unusual? Well cottages are fantastic places to stay in there is no doubt about that its just you may want to stay somewhere a bit different this year?

Windmill

A bit of strange one this but there are in fact many windmills around the world you can stay in. Some of the best are located in France and there are many that even have swimming pool. Windmills are always great for people that love their history as there are many of them that date way back to the 17th century.

Loch Ness

Many of these places date back 200 plus years and there are loads of places jotted around the gigantic lake. All of them have been restored and updated of course and they are awesome looking hotels. Tennis courts, golf courses and cricket pitches are available. There are tours that go across the lake, is the Loch Ness Monster really made up?

A Yurt

This has to be the most unique one on the list simply because when you stay in them it is amazing to see just how much can be sustained from the area around it. Streams provide the water, solar power provides the heating and you provide the food by hitting the streams with your fishing gear and hunting down that delicious dinner. The best place to find Yurts that you can actually stay in would be Portugal and although many of them are in the middle of nowhere there are always shops not too far away in case you do not fancy catching your dinner.

So whether you love the smell of compost from a cottage or love going away to strange places, there is always a holiday available to you.
