Celebrity sales help Thomas Cook with adverts!

February 18th, 2010

Celebrities capabilities have now become noticed by Thomas Cook. All they need to do is stick them on Television, they same way everyone else would use them, turn them into trained advertising chimps. However Thomas Cook has been a little different in the way they have done this. A UK celebrity teaming up with a UK tour operator is a recipe for success. If someone were to ask anyone who Jamie Redknapp was they would probably know straight away. Louise is a judge on one of the UK’s most watched shows currently on TV. Both of these people are loved by the British public!

What is it in this advert that makes it oh so special. These two celebrities are easy for the public to relate too. They can be seen travelling with Thomas Cook to a modest resort, and relaxing on the beach. This can give some people the impression that, well, “if they can go there, maybe we can live like celebrities for a week or two as well”. I do however doubt very much that Mr and Mrs Redknapp do stay in these resorts on a regular basis, but never mind what do any of us know about the lifestyle of a celebrity.

These two never seem to get bad press as well; they appear to be the perfect couple. I am happy for them, I think they have done well. Thomas Cook is the longest running Tour Operator in the UK, so they are a very respected and trusted Tour Operator. A combination of these celebrities and this specific business has seemed to take off very well.

Surely we should look at this from all angles though. Now really do we expect to see celebrities in the same buildings as us more common people, no we don’t. Surely these two are lying to us about the hotel they are really staying at? Somehow I do not think that this holiday is going to be all that great.

Sharm El Sheikh Holidays are a favourite of the Celebrity demographic, showered in luxury hotels, however saying that Egypt holidays have been popular with the entire country. So is Thomas Cook wrong to be employing role models in their adverts, of course not, I have been on Hurghada holidays, what fun it was, no celebrities spotted though!

Journey to the Past: King Tut’s Tomb

February 5th, 2010

The Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt’s top tourist destinations – averaging over 4,500 visitors daily. There are 63 tombs in the valley, but only 18 are open to the public and it’s rare that these are all open at once. The most famous and most visited tomb is that of King Tut. King Tut’s tomb may not be as big and as impressive as others, but that’s only due to what scientists believe was a sudden death. The best way to maximise your visit is to plan ahead before you go. Follow these tips for a great trip:

Guided or solo?

You can either visit the tombs with a prearranged tour guide or on your own. Tour guides are not allowed to lecture inside of the tombs, but will plan your journey and are available for questions afterwards. On any given day only certain tombs will be open so they can help you choose the best ones. If you’re going alone, it’s a good idea to make a list of the tombs you most wanted to see before you go.

Be comfortable

The summer months in Egypt can be unbearably hot. It’s easy to stay comfortable as you won’t find any dress restrictions here as you would in other Egyptian attractions.

Plan ahead

There is plenty to see and do so make the most of it by doing a little research beforehand. Plus the more you know about the culture, the more you’ll be able to appreciate it. If you’ve got an antiquities museum nearby, go for a visit prior to your trip. The British Museumin London will give you a great insight into Egyptian culture, making your visit more insightful. If you can’t get to a museum, simply get on the internet and you’ll be able to find loads of resources at your fingertips. Heritage Key in particular is great – you can even explore the Valley of the Kings virtually with your own personal avatar!

Pace yourself

{While all the tombs are unique in their own right, it recommended that you only visit three or four}Serious tomb researchers may enjoy visiting all that’s on offer but if you’ve just got a normal interest, it’s suggested you only visit three or four on your trip. There are plenty of other amazing sites to see on the West Bank, including monuments and temples. Also the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is home to some of Egypt’s great antiquities including the solid gold death mask of King Tut.

Think ahead and you’ll ensure yourself a fabulous trip. Anyone with an interest in ancient Egypt will really enjoy an informative and exciting trip to see the Valley of the Kings. Enjoy yourself – and don’t for get to bring sunblock as well as plenty of water!
