The River Nile is the most popular tourist spot in Egypt. So if you have the opportunity to do so you really should jump at the chance. A lot of the trips down the Nile are on larger boats on which you can enjoy a meal and drinks as you journey down one of the most famous rivers in the world.

From King Tut to Moses: Ancient Egypt Is Waiting To Be Explored

Having given birth to what many would say was the world’s first great civilisation, Egypt needs little introduction. Recently it’s been a hot contender when it comes to holiday destinations and it’s no surprise why. History buffs and culture vultures alike will enjoy experiencing all that Egypt has to offer. From the hustle and bustle of thriving Cairo, to the tomb of King Tut in the Valley of the Kings and the brilliant shores of the Red Sea, Egypt has something for everyone.

History buffs will probably already have Egypt on their top destination list.  Most travellers seeking to explore Egypt’s colourful past will want to spend a few days exploring the ancient past in Giza. It’s home to both the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx – two of Egypt’s most notable structures. Although the construction of the pyramids only account for a short episode in a long history of ancient Egypt, they nonetheless continue to amaze and astound and are definitely worth a visit.

If the Great Pyramids aren’t enough of a fix for you, enjoy a nice river cruise down the Nile.There are over 70 different pyramids to be seen from the river banks! As most of Egypt’s kings and queens travelled this way, you’ll be getting a true taste of Egyptian culture. You’ll find the majority of cruises travel between Luxor and Aswan.You can choose how many days you want to spend exploring the cities along this lively river. Most notably, you’ll want to make a visit to the Valley of the Kings. Out of the 63 tombs here, 18 are open to the public, including that of the world’s most famous pharaoh, King Tut. While the Valley of the Kings is the main attraction, if you have time try to explore the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut as well.

Holidaymakers who are looking to relax a bit more but still get in some of Egypt’s rich historical past should head to Sharm el Sheikh. Although it was once a tiny finishing town, it is now celebrated as one of the world’s best diving sites, and thus very popular with tourists. In addition to enjoying the underwater brilliance of the Red Sea and Sharm’s beautiful beaches, those looking for a glimpse at the past can trek the Holy Mountains. One of these famous peaks includes Mount Sinai, where Moses received the 10 Commandments. You can also visit St Catharine’s Monastery and see the ‘burning bush’, which is in fact not the actual bush but a monumental replacement.

 

 

Journey to the Past: King Tut’s Tomb

The Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt’s top tourist destinations – averaging over 4,500 visitors daily. There are 63 tombs in the valley, but only 18 are open to the public and it’s rare that these are all open at once. The most famous and most visited tomb is that of King Tut. King Tut’s tomb may not be as big and as impressive as others, but that’s only due to what scientists believe was a sudden death. The best way to maximise your visit is to plan ahead before you go. Follow these tips for a great trip:

Guided or solo?

You can either visit the tombs with a prearranged tour guide or on your own. Tour guides are not allowed to lecture inside of the tombs, but will plan your journey and are available for questions afterwards. On any given day only certain tombs will be open so they can help you choose the best ones. If you’re going alone, it’s a good idea to make a list of the tombs you most wanted to see before you go.

Be comfortable

The summer months in Egypt can be unbearably hot. It’s easy to stay comfortable as you won’t find any dress restrictions here as you would in other Egyptian attractions.

Plan ahead 

There is plenty to see and do so make the most of it by doing a little research beforehand. Plus the more you know about the culture, the more you’ll be able to appreciate it. If you’ve got an antiquities museum nearby, go for a visit prior to your trip. The British Museumin London will give you a great insight into Egyptian culture, making your visit more insightful. If you can’t get to a museum, simply get on the internet and you’ll be able to find loads of resources at your fingertips. Heritage Key in particular is great – you can even explore the Valley of the Kings virtually with your own personal avatar!

Pace yourself

{While all the tombs are unique in their own right, it recommended that you only visit three or four}Serious tomb researchers may enjoy visiting all that’s on offer but if you’ve just got a normal interest, it’s suggested you only visit three or four on your trip. There are plenty of other amazing sites to see on the West Bank, including monuments and temples. Also the Egyptian Museum in Cairo is home to some of Egypt’s great antiquities including the solid gold death mask of King Tut.

Think ahead and you’ll ensure yourself a fabulous trip. Anyone with an interest in ancient Egypt will really enjoy an informative and exciting trip to see the Valley of the Kings. Enjoy yourself – and don’t for get to bring sunblock as well as plenty of water!
