Facts about Caribbean islands!

January 21st, 2010

I thought it would be interesting for everyone if I provided a piece of information about some of these Caribbean islands that you may not already know about, so feel free to read on and learn something new.

Antigua is an island but this is also a word, do you what this means? Antigua is a Spanish word and means Ancient, it received its name thanks to Columbus, who named it after a church in Santa Maria!

Could you tell what the national flower of Barbados is? This is the national flower of Barbados, and this type is extremely rare, called the “Pride of Barbados” it is a Hibiscus plant.

St Lucia wasn’t always the luxury holiday location it is today, it was an island of war. This was an island of war with the French and the British fighting over it for many occasions earning its name “Helen”.

Jamaica isn’t that large, but how many people do you think inhabit this land. There are many more people living here than you think i bet? I doubt that you were very close, the number you are trying to find is somewhere in the region of 3 million!

Cuba is very much a misunderstood state, although some points are true, there are others that are quite interesting to note. Bearing in mind the regime and all the restrictions set on this island, it is by far the most culturally diverse of all the Caribbean islands!

Grenada has a lot of natural beauty, much like the island of St Lucia, and it has tried to use this to it’s advantage to exploit tourism. Grenada much like Zanzibar shares another name “the Spice Isle”. This island produces much of the spice in the whole of the Caribbean, including items like Nutmeg from mace.

Finally we have Bermuda, well without stating the obvious superstitious stuff about this place, let’s find out something else. Bermuda is considered by many to be one island, when it actually consists of more than a hundred small islands.

So what do you think, inspired to try Caribbean holidays, with new knowledge you could try St Lucia holidays or Cuba holidays!

Would the people give up there holidays for the environment?

December 19th, 2009

There is growing concern about the environment, but how concerned are we really? People are burning fuel all across the world, and all we do is create more unique ways to help damage the planet. We take something like a boat and turn it into a cruise ship, we are no longer people that live for necessity we live for luxury.

If we are really concerned about the environment, what are we going to do about going on holidays? Are we just going to keep on having a go at the world, saying we need to do something about this, yet still jump on a jumbo jet for a holiday to the Caribbean? How can we just let talks about saving the world go on, and back everything that is said, and then take off to a luxury location via one of the most destructive of all transportation techniques, the Cruise ship.

However how can we be sure that the world is really in that much trouble? A lot of this is all speculation, backed up by only minor evidence. There may be some evidential backing to all of this, but it is impossible for any scientist to actually say when the world is going to come to an end. So whats next for all of us to attempt? In truth, the damage being caused by flights isn’t in the great scheme of things all that bad, it is where fuel is being burnt in extreme amounts.

People being banned from going on holidays is so unbelievably unlikely, that we must find new ways to look after ourselves and the planet. It is up to the people to decide if they want to stop, but many of us feel as though we need holidays, so therefore won’t stop taking them, even if it does mean damaging the planet, when we get the opportunity for a holiday we have to take it. Cruise ships however, they can be banned immediately in my eyes, these contraptions are pure evil, great for destroying the planet and spreading disease to kill people, as far as i am concerned get rid of them.

There could be a rush for holidays in the next decade, where would you go, Cuba holidays, Egypt holidays or Maldives holidays?
